Necklace length reads differently on different bodies and different necklines. Standard sizing is a starting point, not a rule — but knowing the standards makes the exceptions easier.

The standard lengths

  • Collar (12–13") — sits on the neck
  • Choker (14–16") — base of the neck / collarbone
  • Princess (17–19") — just below the collarbone; the most common daily length
  • Matinee (20–24") — mid-chest, sits at or above cleavage
  • Opera (28–36") — deep chest, often knotted or doubled
  • Rope (36"+) — waist-length, dramatic

How to measure without ordering

  1. Take a soft measuring tape or string.
  2. Hold it at the back of your neck and let it drape where you want the piece to sit.
  3. Mark that point — that's your length.

Neckline notes

  • Crew necks: 18–20" sits above the collar
  • V-necks: match the pendant tip to the V's low point
  • Turtlenecks: matinee or longer, or skip
  • Off-shoulder: shorter (16–17") frames the neck

Our stone pendants ship on 18" cord by default and can be restrung to any length via the studio. See the layering guide for stacking multiple lengths.
